Football Head Coach Willie Fritz Holds Season Wrap-Up News Conference

NEW ORLEANSÂ - Tulane football head coach Willie Fritz held his season wrap-up news conference Tuesday morning at the James W. Wilson, Jr. Athletics Center.
The Green Wave (4-8, 1-7 American Athletic Conference | West) closed Coach Fritz' first season on the Uptown campus with his first conference win in a 38-13 victory at UConn on Nov. 26. Prior to the UConn win, the last time the Green Wave won their regular-season finale was a 28-18 win over East Carolina on Nov. 22, 2003 and won a regular-season road finale was a 44-10 win at Houston on Nov. 22, 1997.Â
This year's Tulane squad featured three all-conference selections as senior linebacker Nico Marley and senior defensive tackle Tanzel Smart named to The American's first team for a second straight yea and junior cornerback Parry Nickerson selected to the second team by a vote of the conference's head coaches. In addition, Marley and Smart were named first team all-conference and Nickerson was named third all-conference by Phil Steele. Smart was also named the No. 6 defensive lineman in the country in SB Nation's postseason All-America team.
The Olive and Blue are set to kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 vs. Grambling State.
