NEW ORLEANS - The USBC and BOWL.com officially announced the fields for the four sectional qualifier tournaments being held March 12-13 across the country, and No. 21 Tulane bowling will head to Smyrna, Tennessee, at Smyrna Bowl for the Smyrna Sectional tournament.
"I am really excited for these ladies to have this opportunity to compete in sectionals. They have been working so hard all year, and I'm glad they have been rewarded," said Tulane bowling head coach Hayley Veitch. "Throughout the year, we have used the quote 'Dare to be great', and that's exactly what we have done all year and will continue to be with every game we bowl."
The top four men's and women's teams from each qualifying tournament will advance to the 2016 Intercollegiate Team Championships, held in Wichita, Kansas, at Northrock Lanes from April 20-23.
The USBC Sectional format consists of 32 Baker games (eight four-game Baker matches) per day for a total of 64 Baker matches throughout the tournament. Tournament play will begin at 8:30 a.m. CST on Saturday, followed by a 7:45 a.m. CST start on Sunday. Total pinfall from the 64 games will determine the four qualifying teams from each sectional.
Tulane will face a competitive 19-team field in Smyrna, including Bellarmine, Bethel, Campbellsville, Cumberlands, Florida State, Lawrence Tech, Lindenwood-Belleville, Marian, North Carolina A&T, Notre Dame-Ohio, Ohio State, Robert Morris-Illinois, Spalding, Spring Hill, St. Catharine, Union, Wichita State and Youngstown State.
Individual bowlers will have the chance to qualify for the Intercollegiate Singles Championships at the USBC Sectional as well. Student-athletes will bowl six games on March 11, the day before the team tournament begins, to determine qualification. The men will begin at 8:30 a.m. CST, and the women will begin at 3:30 p.m. CST. The top four men and women from each sectional, out of a total field of 24 men and 16 men, as well as eight additional selections from the mens field, will advance to the national singles tournament, in Wichita, on April 19 and 23.
The Olive and Blue will travel back to Smyrna, Tennessee, following the USBC Sectional for a return trip to the Music City Classic from March 18-20.
