NEW ORLEANS -- Just a week after wrapping up action at the 2015-16 swimming and diving conference championships in Houston, The American announced this year's list of All-Conference performers. Ten Tulane competitors made the cut with their podium finishes in a handful of last weekend's events, including two swimmers who earned a pair of individual medals apiece. All student-athletes who earned podium finishes qualify for All-Conference honors. Qualified Green Wave competitors now await their post-season fate, which will be decided after all conference championships conclude.
Freshman Natalie Clausen took home a gold and a silver in the 1650 free (16:30.23) and 500 free (4:50.00), respectively, setting school records in both events. Senior Mia Schachter was the second Tulane swimmer to make two trips to the podium with a silver finish in the 100 breast (1:01.52) and a bronze medal in the 100 free (50.09).
Also in on the silver-medal action were senior Roni Meyer and junior Kaitlin Simpson, who each nabbed second-place finishes in their respective events. Meyer broke a school record and notched an NCAA B-Cut time with her performance in the 400 IM (4:19.10), while Simpson also swam a school record-breaking time in the 100 fly (54.10).
Senior Lauren Arnold ensured that Green Wave divers were well-represented on the podium with her third-place performance in the platform dive (210.55).
Freshman Shelly Zelnick became the second freshman to medal at Conference Championships, and took third place in the 200 IM (2:02.87). Sophomore Emma Lincoln would also nab a bronze in the 200 free (1:48.03), a personal best and school record.
In addition to the nine individual medals, Tulane also posted podium finishes in three of the four relays. The Green Wave took second in the 200 medley relay (1:40.19), earning sophomore Tirol Palmer and freshman Paris Zhang All-Conference honors as well. Schachter and Simpson also received relay honors in the race.
A bronze finish in the 400 medley relay (3:40.10) would notch a school record and tenth All-Conference honoree for the Green Wave in senior Elizabeth Cook, along with additional honors for Schachter, Simpson and Lincoln.
Tulane also earned third-place finishes in the 200 free relay (1:32.28), (Zhang, Simpson, Lincoln, Schachter) and 400 free relay (3:20.05), (Zhang, Simpson, Lincoln, Schachter).
NCAA Championships will take place March 16-19 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta. Zone meets will be held March 7-10 at various sites.
