NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's swimming assistant coach Sarah Woodbury was honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Tuesday afternoon. Woodbury was named a recipient of the of the 2016 Jean Freeman Scholarship. She was one of six coaches honored and the only Division I assistant named to the list.
"Sarah has truly been a key component in our team's growth over the past three years and personally I am thrilled to see her recognized through this outstanding honorable award," head coach Katie Robinson said. "Her coaching is intuitive, creative and tough, and I have seen her hunger to learn more in our profession. This award allows her to attend the CSCAA convention to learn from the best coaches in our field and will directly benefit not just her but our team as well. Sarah will be recognized in front of all collegiate coaches at the convention's awards banquet next month and absolutely will have my standing ovation."
The Jean Freeman Scholarship is given annually to six assistant coaches whose exceptional contributions have brought recognition to their college or university, and whose leadership, integrity, honesty, competitive attitude and personal graciousness epitomizes those characteristics reflected by Jean Freeman.
Woodbury helped guide the Green Wave to a second-place finish at the American Athletic Conference Championships this season. She has also been a big part of great program success that has seen numerous all-time Tulane records broken and the Green Wave's first appearance at NCAAs since 2004.
