NEW ORLEANS – For a second straight year, a record seven Tulane sports programs have earned the Public Recognition Award from the NCAA for placing in the top-10 percent in their sports in the latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for the 2014-15 season.
The NCAA named the following Tulane programs to the prestigious list on Wednesday: men’s cross country, men’s tennis, men’s track, women’s basketball, women’s bowling, women’s swimming and diving and women’s volleyball. It marked the sixth straight year that the men’s tennis and women’s swimming and diving programs have each received the award. More impressively is the fact that all seven programs earned a perfect APR score of 1,000 for the second straight year as well.
A total of 290 schools placed at least one team on the top APR list representing 1,071 different sport programs. The scores required to be in the top-10 ranged from 983 to a 1,000, as Tulane’s seven programs were a part of the 944 different sport teams in earning a perfect score.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
