Will begin as a grad assistant this fall
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane women's basketball head coach Lisa Stockton added a valuable piece to the staff on Wednesday, announcing the hire of Heather Karner, who will begin as the program's new grad assistant. Karner, a Youngstown State graduate, brings over a decade of both playing/coaching experience to the program, including a pro-stint in Germany.
"I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to join the Tulane Women's Basketball family," Karner said. "It is truly a blessing to work alongside the experience of Coach Stockton and her staff. Coach Stockton has had a tremendous impact on Tulane basketball and I look forward to being a part of the future success of the program. I can't wait to get started and connect with the incredible community at Tulane University."
Karner played at Youngstown State University from 2006 to 2008 before jetting overseas to Germany, where she spent six years playing pro-ball with TG Sandhausen, Gruner Stern Keltern and SG Weiterstadt, serving as team captain for the latter. Karner also passed along her knowledge to Germany's youth, coaching multiple youth boy's and girl's basketball teams during her six-year tenure abroad.
Upon her return to the States in 2015, Karner accepted an assistant women's basketball coaching position at Northwest Kansas Technical College. There, Karner was involved with the team's workouts/practices, recruiting efforts, scouting reports and even served as the strength and conditioning coach.
