ITA Kick-Off Weekend Draft Page
NEW ORLEANS - On Wednesday afternoon, the ITA held its Division-I men's tennis Kick-Off Weekend draft for the 2017 season. The annual January competition features 15 regional sites consisting of four teams, with the winner of each site advancing to the 2017 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, hosted by the University of Virginia, Feb. 17-20. The Tulane Green Wave will be the No. 2 seed and clash with No. 3 seed Pepperdine in Berkeley, California, as host and No. 1 seed Cal squares off against No. 4 seed Cal Poly.
"This is always a great event to start the year off," Tulane head coach Mark Booras stated. "It gets the competitive juices flowing early because it's against great teams at the start of the year and also because it's the qualifier for the National Indoor Championships in February. It worked out well for us as we have a solid group of teams that will give us some guaranteed ranked match opportunities against opponents we wouldn't normally see on our schedule."
Tulane recently wrapped a 16-9 season, earned the program's first NCAA Tournament berth since 2005 and finished at No. 31 in the national rankings. In terms of the other competing school's rankings in the final ITA poll, Cal checked in at No. 9, while Pepperdine and Cal Poly landed at No. 53 and 62, respectively.
