Five freshmen set to join Green Wave for 2016-17 campaign
NEW ORLEANS – After Tulane men's tennis posted its best season and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the resurrection of the program post-Katrina, head coach Mark Booras continues to ride the positive momentum of the program by adding three more freshmen to the incoming class, bringing the total to five.
First up, from Bruchsal, Germany, is Luis Erlenbusch. The 6-2 freshman won first place at the Federal State Men's Championships this year and earned second place at the U18 National Junior Championships in 2015. Erlenbusch also produced a stellar 2012, winning the U16 Federal State Junior Championships along with a second place showing in doubles at the National Junior Championships.
Next up, from right here in New Orleans, is Chase Schupp. A Smith Stearns Tennis Academy product, Schupp was a four-star recruit who ranks first in the state of Louisiana. Schupp made the third round main draw of both singles and doubles at National Clay Courts and played on the Southern Junior Davis Cup team five years in a row.
Last but certainly not least is Ewan Moore. Hailing from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, Moore achieved a career high junior ITF world singles ranking of 44. Moore also gained valuable experience competing at the Junior Grand Slams where he reached the Round of 32 at Junior Wimbledon. In addition, Moore recently earned his first career ATP point at a Latvia F1 Futures Tournament, where he also won the doubles title, defeating two players ranked inside the ATP top-500.
"We are very excited about our recruiting class for the upcoming year," Booras stated. "This is by far the best and deepest class we've signed since we re-started the program. We're bringing in domestic and foreign players with tons of experience, which should definitely help us build on the successes we had last year. What's even more exciting is how hungry these guys are to improve and be a part of something special here at Tulane."
