NEW ORLEANS — The Tulane swimming & diving program has released its 2016-17 schedule. The Green Wave will compete in six total meets before the conference championships, including a pair of home meets.
"Our in-season meet schedule offers our team great competition paired with the appropriate amount of time to train and prepare in between meets," said head coach Katie Robinson. "We are thrilled to add FIU, Denver and Alabama to our schedule this year while still keeping LSU, Rice, Houston and SMU on our line-up. The Phill Hansel Invitational is an exceptional multi-day meet that mirrors our conference championships and serves as our mid-season checkpoint for our student-athletes. We look to build our strength and stamina throughout the season in order to peak at the American Athletic Conference Championships in February."
The Green Wave will begin the 2016-17 season at Rice on Oct. 14 and 15 at the Dual-A-Pa-Looza event. The two-day meet will include Rice, Florida International and Denver, and will consist of a series of three mini-meets starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and continuing at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Tulane will make its first of three trips to the state of Texas on Nov. 4 to take on the defending conference champion SMU Mustangs at 11 a.m. The Green Wave will return to Texas weeks later for the Phill Hansel Invitational Nov. 18-20. The three-day meet puts Tulane up against 11 other schools and will give the team some early experience at a conference championship-style meet.Â
The Green Wave will host Senior Day in their home opener as LSU comes to town for an 11 a.m. meet on Saturday, Dec. 3. They will return to the Reily Center Natatorium on Jan. 6 to take on Alabama at 2 p.m.
Wrapping up the regular season portion of the schedule, Tulane will travel to Baton Rouge for a quad meet at LSU Jan. 27-28. Host team LSU, as well as Houston and Rice will be in attendance.Â
The Green Wave will look to post another outstanding performance as they return to Houston for the American Athletic Conference Championships. The 2016 season concluded with a second-place finish, the program's best since 2005, as well as nine individual medals and 18 school record-setting performances. The four-day event will run from Feb. 15-18 with prelims taking place in the mornings and finals at night.Â
