Men's Tennis Opens Up Play at Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Tulane men's tennis team opened up fall play this morning at the Crimson Tide Four-In-The-Fall in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Friday's slate witnessed the Green Wave challenge Columbia in four doubles and eight singles matches and clash with host Alabama in singles only.
The No. 30 nationally ranked doubles pairing of Constantin Schmitz and Chi-Shan Jao got the morning started with a hard fought 8-7(5) victory over Victor Pham and Jackie Tang. Then the underclassmen duo of Tyler Schick and Luis Erlenbusch followed suit with an 8-5 victory over Alex Keyser and William Matheson. Overall, the Wave split doubles with Columbia, dropping the remaining two.
Tulane's two sophomores highlighted the singles action for the Wave, as both Schick and Eric Wagner picked up their first victories of the fall. Schick defeated Tim Wang, 6-2, 7-5, while Wagner emerged with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 come-from-behind win vs. Michal Rolski.
Senior Sebastian Rey was the lone Wave competitor who squared off against a foe from Memphis in singles play, as Rey defeated Matt Story, 6-4, 6-2.
In the afternoon session vs Alabama, Schick continued his doubles dominance, this time partnering with Tim Ruetzel for the 8-7(3) victory over Hayes Brewer and Matthew Rossouw. In addition, Rey stayed perfect on the day, cruising to an 8-4 win with Erlenbusch over Thibault Cancel and Landford Hills.
The Green Wave resume play on Saturday with singles competition beginning at 8 a.m. Tulane will then wrap the three-day event with doubles and singles against Memphis on Sunday at 9 a.m.
