NEW ORLEANS – Tulane men's tennis' three upperclassmen will be taking their veteran expertise and talents to Tulsa this weekend for the ITA All-American Championships. Chi-Shan Jao, Sebastian Rey and Constantin Schmitz will look to make waves at the first national championship tournament of the 2016-17 season, which gets underway on Saturday, Oct. 1, with the pre-qualifying round.
Jao will kick things off in pre-qualifying, where he hopes to extend his stay in Tulsa through the weekend, where he could potentially join Rey and Schmitz in the qualifying round, which is set for Oct. 3-4. Furthermore, the main draw is scheduled to take place from Oct. 6-10.
Last year both Rey and Jao fell one victory shy of advancing into the qualifying round, while Schmitz won three straight to qualify for the main draw alongside 2016 graduate Dominik Koepfer, who later made his run to the championship match.
Speaking of Koepfer, Jao partnered with the former Wave standout in doubles last year, where they not only won three straight to book a ticket into the main draw, but also won two additional matches to reach the quarterfinals. This year, Jao will look to capture the same kind of magic with Schmitz, once again starting in the qualifying stage.
This marks the 12th straight year that the University of Tulsa will serve as the official tournament host, with most of the action taking place at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
