
Rotich Defends Title, Leads Cross Country at Pre-National Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Junior Emmanuel Rotich continued his marvelous season at the Adidas Pre-National Cross Country Meet, Saturday morning, at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky., claiming his third first-place finish of the year with a time of 23:47.1 in the men's black 8k race.
Rotich beat the second-place finisher by 16.4 seconds, as he led Tulane men's team to a 15th place finish for the second consecutive year. Last season, Rotich placed first at the Pre-National, posting a time of 24:36.5 and crossing the finish line ten seconds ahead of the second-place runner to lead the Tulane men to a no. 15 place finish.
Senior Moses Aloiloi earned a 82nd place finish with a time of 25:39.6, while junior Joshua Cheruyot finished in 109th place (25:59.3). Freshman Andrew Kipkemboi and sophomore Carlos Zervigon finished in no. 140 and 141, respectively, while junior Pierce Hill and redshirt senior Stephen Medlin trailed behind them in the black race at no. 171 and 206, respectively.
On the women's side, seniors Lauren Bartels and Emma Newton lead the Green Wave to a 39th place finish, recording finishes of 21:28.1 and 21:42.7, respectively. Redshirt sophomore Mckenzie Melius and freshman Bridgid Selfors each set personal records, finishing in 22:22.1 and 23:00.2, respectively. Melius recorded her previous 6k best (22:28..7) last season, Oct. 29, 2016, at the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Tulane will take the week off to practice before traveling to Philadelphia for the American Athletic Conference Championships, Saturday, Oct. 28.
