CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Gabrielle Correia paced Tulane women's golf with a two-over 218 (+2) as the Green Wave placed 15th at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational played on North Carolina's Finley Golf Course.
Tulane posted a three-day total of 889 (+25) with five rounds of one-over par or better. Duke won the tournament with an 833 (-31), just one stroke ahead of second-place Alabama's 834 (-30).
Correia was responsible for three of Tulane's lowest rounds as she carded a 73 (+1) in the first and final rounds and shot an even par 72 in the second round. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y., native closed strong in Sunday's final round, shooting one under over her final 16 holes to finish tied for 37th among the 96-player field.
Freshman Jennifer Rosenberg continued her solid play with a second round 72 (E) and a final round 71 (-1) to give her four rounds of par or better this fall. She recorded three birdies and two bogeys in the final round, capping her day with a near hole-in-one on the par-3, 187-yard 12th hole. The Laurel Hollow, N.Y., native knocked the ball stiff to within an inch of the hole and then tapped in the easy birdie to close the tournament tied for 47th at 220 (+4).
Junior Laura Munoz (225, +9), junior Abbie Cantwell (226, +10) and sophomore Haydyn Gibson (236, +20) rounded out the Green Wave's scoring on the weekend.
"We made one or two mistakes each round that didn't allow us to shoot the low scores that we would have liked," said head coach Lorne Don. "We played solid in spots. If we can clean up our mistakes, we can finish out the fall on a high note."Â
Next up, Tulane closes out its fall schedule Nov. 3-5 in San José del Cabo, Mexico at the Club Campestre San Jose Golf Course for Battle at the Beach.
