NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane beach volleyball embarks on its seventh season this Saturday, when it travels to Gulf Shores, Ala. to compete in its first preseason scrimmage, the Gulf Shores Collegiate Clash. The Green Wave's seven pairings will play matches against competitors from Florida State, LSU, Georgia State, Stetson, Spring Hill and TCU.Â
"We're looking forward to the event and are heading into it with a high level of confidence, both in our ability to perform and in our capacity to improve from the experience," head coach Wayne Holly said. "We'll use the event to experiment with some different lineups and pairings. The goal is to compete and achieve at a high level and gather data that will help us to continue to improve for the spring season."
Last season, Tulane made program history on many different fronts. The Green Wave finished 24-13, good for the most single-season wins in program history, and earned their first-ever wins at the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Conference Championships. As freshmen, Kaylie McHugh and Tarin Mergener combined for 54 overall wins, breaking the freshman class record and spurring Holly's program to its fourth consecutive winning season.
