Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season at Samford Invitational

NEW ORLEANS - Under first-year head coach Maria Brito, the Tulane women's tennis team will open its 2017 fall season Oct. 6-8 on a trip to Birmingham, Ala., for the Samford Invitational.
Competition will begin with two rounds of doubles play on Friday, Oct. 6 at 8:30 and 9:15 a.m. (CT), before singles action gets underway at 11 a.m.
The Green Wave returns five letterwiners from last year's squad which posted a 22-7 during the spring season. Among those returners is sophomore Ivone Alvaro, who went 18-5 in singles and 17-3 in doubles en route to earning American Athletic Conference Co-Freshman of the Year honors.
Lone senior Sade Atkinson was a 2017 All-American Athletic Conference selection after racking up 25 singles and 23 doubles victories. Junior Sofia Kurtz returns, as well as classmate Elena Muller who went 21-7 overall in singles play, including a team-best 19-3 in dual matches. Sophomore Christina Sisti led the Green Wave with 27 singles wins, including an 18-6 mark during the spring, to complement a 17-3 doubles record.
Sophomore Laura Fabrizi will make her Tulane debut this weekend after playing her freshman year at Florida Atlantic University. Freshman and Bolivia native Daniela La Fuente will also take the court for the first time.
