Football's Hilliard Grabs Second LSWA Offensive Player of the Week Honor
Nov 14, 2017 | Football
NEW ORLEANS – Senior running back Dontrell Hilliard picked up his second Louisiana Sports Writers Association Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season following his performance in Tulane football's overtime win at ECU.
Â
Hilliard had another career night with career highs in carries (28) and rushing yards (189) and two touchdowns. On his first touchdown, he bounced off traffic at the line of scrimmage and raced 60 yards to the end zone on the first play of the Green Wave's second second-quarter drive to give the Green Wave a 14-7 lead. On his second, the Baton Rouge, La., native extended the lead to 24-14 at the end of the third quarter on a 26-yard scoring scamper.
The conference's third-leading rusher continues to move up the school's single-season lists, ranked seventh in rushing yards with 997 and tied for fourth in rushing touchdowns with 11. On school's career lists, Hilliard ranks fifth in rushing yards (2,854), fifth in rushing touchdowns (29) and tied for fifth in 100-yard rushing games (9).
Hilliard was also recognized on the American Athletic Conference's weekly honor roll for football for his performance.Â
This marked the third LSWA weekly honor for Tulane this season as Hilliard was named Offensive Player of the Week for his 175-yard, four-touchdown performance vs. Tulsa on Oct. 7 and junior quarterback Jonathan Banks received the same honor following his four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) vs. Grambling State on Sept. 2.
Tulane plays its final home game of 2017 on Saturday, as the Green Wave host Houston for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPNews.
