Morgan Earns LSWA Player of the Week Honors
Dec 28, 2017 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – For the second time this year, the Louisiana Sports Writer's Association has recognized Tulane women's basketball senior Kolby Morgan for her tremendous play.
Â
After scoring a combined 54 points in two games last week – reaching 1,900 career points in the process – in two Tulane wins, Morgan was named the LSWA's Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Â
While scoring 54 points in wins over Troy and UTEP, Morgan moved up to third all-time in Tulane history in career scoring. Morgan was named the Tulane Classic MVP for the second consecutive year, becoming just the third player in Classic history to win the MVP award in back-to-back years.
Â
Morgan started her week with a 32-point effort against Troy. That total was her third-highest scoring game in her four-year Green Wave career. Morgan also led Tulane with eight rebounds and had a career-high eight assists to go along with five steals.
Â
The next night against UTEP, Morgan sealed the Tulane Classic championship for Tulane with 22 points and six assists against the Miners.
Â
Tulane is on a three-game winning streak and had the fifth-best scoring game in program history on Thursday vs. Troy. The team scored 106 points, breaking the 100-point barrier for the first time since 2008. Tulane also had 29 team assists in the game, the third-best assist game in program history.
Â
Morgan was previously honored by the LSWA earlier this year, earning the organization's Player of the Month award for her stellar play in November.
Â
Morgan and the rest of the Green Wave return to action on Sunday, opening American Athletic Conference play against No. 25/24 USF with an 11 a.m. central tipoff in the Sun Dome.
