Schmitz knocked off the 12th ranked player in the country last weekend
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference announced its men's tennis player of the week on Wednesday afternoon, as Tulane junior Constantin Schmitz picked up his first honor this spring. The accolade marks just the second conference award for Schmitz after previously being named The American's player of the month for his stellar September play.
Schmitz shone bright for the Green Wave at ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Berkeley, California, winning both of his singles and doubles matches against Pepperdine to help propel Tulane into the final against No. 4 California. There, Schmitz recorded the best ranked win of his career, knocking off No. 12 Florian Lakat at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Schmitz is currently ranked No. 54 in singles play, which marks a career high for the junior. Lastly, Schmitz and the rest of the Green Wave will return to action this Sunday when they host Santa Clara at Noon CT at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
