Women's Golf Completes Play at UCF Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. - Tulane women's golf closed out play at its first tournament of the spring, placing tied for 13th at the UCF Challenge played at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando. Fla.
Tulane battled amongst a field of 11 top 60 teams to post an 876 (+12) and finish in a tie with East Carolina. The Green Wave shot solid as team, sitting at +3 through the first two rounds, but faltered in the final round with a +9 to finish outside of the top 10.
Freshman Gabrielle Correia shined for Tulane with a 214 (-2) to finish tied for 20th among the 96 golfers competing. Correia shot mostly mistake-free golf throughout, finishing the first and third rounds at even par. Her big day came in the second round where she holed three-straight birdies on the ninth, 10th and 11th holes then bounced back from a bogey on the 11th with a birdie on the 18th to close the round two shots under par.
"I'm really excited for Gabrielle and how well she played throughout the tournament," said head coach Lorne Don. "She showed a lot of poise on the course and I look forward to seeing more from her this spring."
Senior Belen Goicoechea posted three-straight 73s to finish three shots over par (219) and place tied for 38th among the individuals. Mississippi State's Chieh Jessica Peng took home individual medalist honors with a 205 (-11).
Next up, Tulane hosts the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Championship on Feb. 19-21 at English Turn Golf & Country Club. This year's field once again features some of the nation's top women's golf programs including defending NCAA champion Washington and No. 1 ranked Stanford.
