SAN ANTONIO – With inclement weather threatening the San Antonio area, No. 42 Tulane women's tennis battled UTSA in singles first. However, the two sides split singles, 3-3, so after a slight rain break, the Green Wave jumped on the Roadrunners in doubles, claiming the 4-3 road victory as a result.
Â
"Really happy with getting this road win," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "We started with singles due to weather and split those matches so we knew after that we would really need to do a great job of playing with energy and intensity against UTSA, as they were definitely fired up. I'm proud of how we responded in doubles with sweeping all three courts under a great deal of pressure, as we knew what was at stake with this match. When we are dialed in to our task and playing with heart, we are a very good team. We just need to really keep working on playing with urgency and understand when to step up and take control."
Â
The bottom half of Tulane's lineup came through yet again, as the Wave received singles victories from its underclassmen trio on courts 4-6. Elena Muller and Christina Sisti each won their team leading 12th dual win this spring with straight-set victories. Freshman Ivone Alvaro then rounded out the singles wins with a 6-1, 6-1 win on court four.
Â
With the outcome of the team match riding on doubles, the Wave powered through, claiming wins on all three courts. It marked Tulane's 15th doubles win this season.
Â
Muller and Naz Karagoz reached double-digits in wins by improving to 10-6 this spring with a 6-3 win in court one. Meanwhile, Alvaro/Atkinson improved to 6-1 on court two while Klier/Sisti moved their record to 8-5.
Â
Up next, the Olive and Blue kick-off a three-match home-stand, starting with conference foe UCF on Monday, March 13, at Noon CT.
