NEW ORLEANS – The No. 42 Tulane women's tennis (16-4) won its fifth straight and remained undefeated at home at 8-0 after earning a 5-2 victory over UCF (10-5) on Monday afternoon. The Green Wave also improved to 3-0 against American Athletic Conference competition this season.
Â
"We're really excited for this win," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "With this being a conference match we really wanted to set the tone. It really started in doubles where we brought a lot of energy and intensity, which is something we talk about often. It was really good to see us firing on all cylinders on all three courts. We did a good job of sticking with our plan today."
Â
Tulane came out firing in doubles, recording 6-1 wins on both courts two and three to clinch the point. Sade Atkinson and Ivone Alvaro improved to 7-1 as a team, while Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti moved to 9-5.
Â
UCF quickly tied the match at 1-1 after a straight-set win on court three, but Sisti on court six, and Elena Muller on court five, pushed the Wave back out ahead, 3-1. Sisti wrapped first, winning 6-4, 6-1, while Muller notched a 6-2, 6-4, victory. Both achieved their team-leading 13th singles wins this spring.
Â
The Knights cut the deficit to 3-2 after a win over on court one, leaving it up to Klier or Alvaro to clinch for Tulane. It was the senior, Klier, who finished first, defeating Natalia Serrano, 7-5, 6-4. Alvaro then rounded out the 5-2 final with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, victory for her 11th dual win.
Â
Up next, the Olive and Blue remain home for a double-header on Saturday, March 18, when they host ULM at 10 a.m., followed by Rhode Island at 3 p.m.
