LAFAYETTE, La. – The No. 43 Tulane women's tennis team (18-5) competed on the road for one last time during the regular season on Tuesday, shutting-out Louisiana Lafayette (5-7), 4-0. The Green Wave competed with an adjusted lineup today, playing without regular lineup staple Naz Karagoz, but sophomore Sofia Kurtz answered the call admirably, winning both her singles and doubles matchups today.
"I'm happy with today's performance. We had to adjust our lineup and that can sometimes present challenges but the team handled the task really well," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "We didn't start out incredibly strong in doubles but rebounded well in singles and I'm always preaching to them about finishing strong even if you don't start well. Overall just proud of their effort and happy to get this road win."
The Green Wave continued their dominant season in doubles, winning the opening point for the 19th time this season. Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti won their sixth straight with a 6-3 victory on court three. The sophomore tandem of Kurtz and Elena Muller then clinched with a 7-6 win on court two.
In singles, Kurtz picked up her first dual win this spring with a 6-3, 6-4, win on court six. Ivone Alvaro then won her team best seventh straight via a 6-2, 6-2, final on court three to improve to 14-5 this spring. Sade Atkinson then delivered Tulane its 18th win this season with a 6-4, 6-4, win on court two.
Up next, Tulane ends the regular season with a five-match homestand, starting with Middle Tennessee on Friday, March 31, at 10 a.m. CT.
