SUNSET, S.C. – The Tulane women's golf team competes in its regular-season finale this weekend, traveling to upstate South Carolina and The Reserve at Lake Keowee for the 2017 Clemson Invitational.
Tulane faces another impressive field with 12 of the 17 teams participating ranked in the top 60 -- No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Florida State, No. 8 Furman, No. 18 Texas A&M, No. 21 Texas, No. 24, Oklahoma, No. 30 Ohio State, No. 32 Tennessee, No. 42 Clemson, No. 43 Louisville, No. 47 Houston and No. 60 Vanderbilt.
The Green Wave enter the tournament ranked 87th and is slated to open play with the lineup of sophomore Sofia Goicoechea at No. 1, senior Belen Goicoechea at No. 2, freshman Haydyn Gibson at No. 3, sophomore Laura Munoz at No. 4 and redshirt freshman Elise Genoux at No. 5. Freshman Gabrielle Correia is set to compete as an individual.
On the season, Munoz leads Tulane in stroke average at 74.79 and recorded the best individual finish so far, tying for 10th at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship.
"We're excited to get to (the) Clemson (Invitational)," said Don. "Our assistant coach, Janine Fellows, is very familiar with the golf course so I think she's going to have some good information for our players. We've been close putting it all together at a couple of tournaments this year. We've seen some good glimpses of individual play and we just need to put that together as a team. It's another strong field against a lot of good competition, which we are excited about."
Fellows, who starred for the Green Wave from 2008-11, spent three seasons (2014-16) as an assistant coach at Clemson under former Tulane head coach John Thomas Horton before returning to her alma mater this season.
Up next after the Clemson Invitational, Tulane heads to the 2017 American Athletic Conference Championship April 16-18 at the Hammock Beach at Golf Resort in Palm Coast, Fla. Â
