NEW ORLEANS – The No. 43 Tulane women's tennis team (20-5) achieved its first 20-win season in the post-Katrina era on Saturday morning after rolling to a 4-1 win over Louisiana Tech (11-9). Saturday's matchup also marked the eighth contest against a Louisiana school this season, in which the Green Wave are now 7-1.
"Obviously really happy about getting win No. 20 today. I want to congratulate the team for working very hard and putting in all the hard work behind the scenes," Tulane head coach Terri Sisk said. "Just really believing in what we are about. It's because of them, we are where we are today. I told the girls in our meeting afterwards that this is for you. Now we have to get ready for UConn tomorrow."
The pairing of Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti proved rocksteady yet again, winning their team leading 13th doubles match on court three via a decisive 6-2 final. Then over on court one, tied 4-4, Sade Atkinson and Ivone Alvaro pushed ahead to clinch the 1-0 lead with a 6-4 victory, winning their fifth straight in the process.
Next, in singles, Atkinson quickly wrapped her match on court two, dispatching Nadja Manjon, 6-3, 6-1. Elena Muller then improved her record to 15-3 after a 6-2, 7-5 win on court four against Alba Escalona Perny.
With the Wave needing just one more point for the team clinch, it was Sisti who answered the call by rallying down 4-0 in the first, and then 4-1 in the second, to defeat Marta Sramkova, 6-4, 6-4. With the victory, Sisti achieved her team leading 16th dual win.
Up next, Tulane wraps three matches in three days with American Athletic Conference foe UConn on Sunday at 10 a.m. CT. The Wave are 3-0 in conference matches this year.
