No. 43 Women’s Tennis Fights Off UConn, 5-2

NEW ORLEANS - The No. 43 Tulane women's tennis team pushed its winning streak to five straight and won for the 10th time in its last 11 tries with a 5-2 home victory over Connecticut on Sunday afternoon.
The Green Wave got the day started with an overpowering effort in doubles play, as Kyla Klier and Christina Sisti cruised to a 6-1 victory from the No. 3 spot in the lineup. Ivone Alvaro and Sade Atkinson finished close behind by the same count on court one to clinch the doubles point, win their sixth-straight match and give Tulane (21-5) an early 1-0 lead.
Elena Muller was the first singles player off the court, easing her way to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph out of the No. 4 spot in the lineup to increase the Green Wave's advantage to 2-0.
The Huskies would counter however, earning wins on court six (6-2, 6-4) and court one (6-2, 6-1) to tie the match, 2-2.
Tulane pulled back in front one last time when Sisti finished off Jacqueline Lazaro, 6-4, 6-0, in court five, before Sade Atkinson completed a three-set comeback, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, on court two to clinch the match. Alvaro tacked on the Wave's fifth team point with a three-set victory of her own from the No. 3 position, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Tulane will take a seven-day break before returning to action next Sunday, Apr. 9 to host Troy. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
