Muller and Alvaro honored
NEW ORLEANS – The Louisiana Sports Writer's Association (LSWA) announced its end of the year All-Louisiana awards over the weekend as the Tulane women's tennis program landed both sophomore Elena Muller and freshman Ivone Alvaro on the First Team list. It marked the first All-Louisiana honors for both Green Wave student-athletes.
Muller led the Wave with an impressive 19-3 dual record, an improvement from a 9-8 mark from a year before. Muller finished the year with a six-match win streak and went 4-1 against American Athletic Conference competition. In doubles, the sophomore went 14-9 with an 8-4 mark at the No. 1 position, which also included two top-40 ranked wins.
Next, Alvaro finished right behind with an 18-5 dual record, which led to her being named Co-Freshman of the Year by The American. Alvaro ended the year on a team best 11-match win streak. The Portugal native also recorded the second most doubles victories with a 17-3 record.
Together, Muller, Alvaro and the rest of the Green Wave produced one of the biggest turnarounds in Division I women's tennis, going from an eight-win campaign to a 22-7 record this season. It marked the first 20-win season in the post-Katrina era.
