Jul 25, 2017 | Women's Tennis
TEMPE, Ariz. - Three members of the Tulane women's tennis team, Elena Muller, Kyla Klier and Sofia Kurtz, were honored as Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athletes for the 2016-17 season, according to an announcement Tuesday.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year). All varsity letterwinners for the 2016-17 season were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
Tulane recorded one of the best turnarounds in all of NCAA Division I in 2016-17, going from 8-14 a year ago to producing a 22-7 record this spring, marking the first 20-win season in the post-Katrina era. The Green Wave also achieved post-Katrina firsts in two different categories: reaching a national ranking as high as No. 36 and producing the program's first win over a team ranking in the top 30 with a 4-3 upset of then-No. 28 LSU.
