Â
Q1: How have you spent your summer?
I went back to Singapore to spend time with my family for a week, flew to Taiwan with my family for a vacation for 2 weeks, and then back to Singapore for another week. After that, I came to Boston for my internship! Between all the flying, I've been relaxing and just enjoying the company of family and local food.
Â
Q2: Does this internship relate to your major, and what have you learned that can carry into your future career?
This internship (with a data management company) does not really relate to my major much, but it does require some skills I picked up from business classes. I learned that school can provide you an education, but it does not really incorporate everything that can prepare you for life after graduation. The internship does help that, and I plan to take on anything my future career throws my way!
Â
Q3: Have you continued to practice bowling during the summer, and what aspects of your game have you worked to improve?
I have continued to practice bowling during the summer, but unfortunately not as much as I would've liked. However, I was able to work on my footwork and timing in Singapore. Personally, I think these two areas are really important as they affect almost everything you do when bowling, and having a firm foundation in them is essential. I will be returning to New Orleans two weeks before school starts, and I intend to work on accuracy and improve the other two aforementioned then.
Â
Q4: What fun things have you done in your spare time away from work or the bowling alley?
I've visited the New England Aquarium! It was pretty cool, lots of penguins. I'm also excited to walk the Freedom Trail with my former teammate Kierstyn (Rush) who is coming to Boston this week! Other than that, I have been exploring places near train stations, such as Chinatown, a really nice farmer's market around Haymarket Station, and walked around Fenway Park. I'm a foodie so I really just go wherever good food is. If I have the time, I would like to visit Salem and learn about witches and history.
Â
Q5: Did you learn anything last season that you can carry into the 2017-18 bowling season?
Last season is probably the best season seen in Tulane history so far, and I personally learned that we can achieve anything as long as we set our minds to it. The early morning workouts, long practices and four-day tournaments were worth it, as can be seen from our outstanding results in the fall. We did see a slight decline in performance during the spring, and there is much to learn from that. As bowling is basically in season the whole academic year, we have to learn to overcome the fatigue that comes with juggling academics and sport, and also strive to outdo ourselves every day, because that is the only way to be the best you can be. And I hope I can carry what I've learned into my last year with Tulane bowling.
Â
Q6: What do you look forward to the most about your senior year at Tulane?
Graduation! Aside from that, I look forward to spending the last year with my team as they have been my family away from home for the past four years. I am definitely looking forward to making more history with the team and topping other teams! Can I do a shout out? Come support us at our home tournament this fall!
