
Track & Field's Distance Medley Relay Team Dash to Third-Place Finish in Day One of Vandy Invite

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Junior Mckenzie Melius, sophomore Sarah Cella, junior Jessica Duckett and redshirt junior Emma Newton teamed up for a third-place finish in the 4000m distance medley relay, highlighting Tulane track & field's Day One performance Friday night at the Vanderbilt Invitational inside the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility in Nashville, Tenn.
Melius, Cella, Duckett and Newton recorded a time of 12:00.87, finishing behind winner Vanderbilt's foursome and second-place Alabama's team. The race marked the first time this season that the ladies of Tulane had competed in the 4000m DMR.
Freshman Kyah Loyd,sophomore Brandi Hughes and freshman Danielle Wember shined in the 200m run. Loyd earned a 15th place finish with a time of 24.80, while Hughes came in 44th (25.89) and Wember finished 56th (26.78). Hughes' finish was a personal record, topping her previous best of 25.92, which she set at the Indiana Relays (1/27/17).
Freshman Pauline Helm dazzled in two events, finishing in the Top 60 in both the 200m run and the long jump. Helm notched a time of 26.78 in the 200m run and finished 24th in the long jump with a mark of 5.37m (17-07.50).
On the men's side, sophomore Raymond Kibet made his indoor season debut and finished 25th in the 200m run. Kibet's time of 22.33 is his indoor personal best.

Tulane will look to continue its roll when the second and final day of competition returns 10 a.m. tomorrow morning inside the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
