Women's Tennis Sweeps Northwestern State, New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team opened its 2018 spring season with a doubleheader sweep, topping Northwestern State and New Orleans, 4-0, respectively, Sunday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (2-0) got a head start against the Lady Demons, who had just five players and were forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match and No. 6 singles contest. Sade Atkinson and Elena Muller cruised on court one, 6-0, to clinch the doubles point to extend the advantage to 2-0 at the start of singles action.
After Daniela La Fuente was victorious by forfeit, Christina Sisti cruised in her No. 5 singles matchup, 6-2, 6-1, before Ivone Alvaro closed out court three, 6-0, 6-3, to clinch the 4-0 victory.
Against UNO, Tulane got off to another quick start with a 6-2 win in the No. 2 doubles matchup behind the efforts of Laura Fabrizi and Alvaro. Sisti and freshman Alex Alegre clinched the doubles point a short while later, 6-4, from the No. 3 spot in the lineup to put the Green Wave ahead, 1-0.
The Green Wave pounced on the Privateers by taking the first set on four courts. Sisti was once again the first one to finish, easing her way to a 6-1, 6-3 win. Alvaro won her 13th consecutive dual match on court three, 6-2, 6-2, to push the Wave's lead to 3-0 in the overall match, before Fabrizi clinched it, 6-2, 6-3, on court two.
Tulane returns to action Jan. 27-28 for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Auburn, Ala. The Green Wave will face Auburn on day one, before facing either Miami (Fla.) or UC Santa Barbara on day two.
