Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 13 Auburn, 4-0

AUBURN, Ala. - The Tulane women's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2018 spring season, 4-0, at 13th-ranked Auburn on Saturday afternoon at ITA Kickoff Weekend.
Auburn put the pressure on Tulane early with the start of doubles play, as the Tigers claimed a 6-1 win on court three, before clinching the doubles point with a 6-2 victory on court one to take a 1-0 lead in the overall match.
In singles, senior Sade Atkinson won the first set, 6-4, over 77th-ranked Taylor Russo on court one, while sophomore Ivone Alvaro won the first frame by the same score over Alizee Michaud in the No. 3 spot, but the Tigers won the first set on the other four courts.
Auburn would win in straight sets on courts, two, four and five, respectively, to clinch the match and advance to Sunday's final.
Tulane will face the loser of 17th-ranked Miami (Fla.) and UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, January 29 at 10 a.m., in the consolation match at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
