Women’s Tennis Falls to UCSB, 4-0

AUBURN, Ala. - The Tulane women's tennis team wrapped competition at ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-0 defeat to UC Santa Barbara in a consolation match on Sunday afternoon.
The Green Wave (2-2) got behind early, as the Gauchos (2-2) grabbed two quick doubles wins: 6-2 on court one, before a 6-3 triumph on court two, to claim the first team point of the match heading into singles.
Despite sophomore Ivone Alvaro winning the first set, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot in the singles lineup and sophomore Christina Sisti doing the same in the No. 5 position, 6-4, UCSB kept the pressure on by taking the first frame on the other four courts.
The Gauchos extended their lead to 3-0 in the overall match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles, followed by a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot. UCSB closed out the match on court four, 6-0, 7-6 to claim third place at Auburn's host site.
Tulane returns to action next Saturday, Feb. 3 for a road match at UAB. First serve is scheduled for noon (CT).
