Women's Tennis Topples UAB, 4-1

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Tulane women's tennis team earned its first road win of the season, 4-1, in non-conference action at UAB on Saturday afternoon at George Ward Park.
The Green Wave (3-2) got a huge lift early with some clutch performances in doubles play, as Sade Atkinson and Elena Muller held on for a 7-6 victory at the No. 1 position in the lineup. Despite falling, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot, Ivone Alvaro and Laura Fabrizi closed out a 7-6 victory at the No. 2 position to clinch the doubles point and give the Wave a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
Alvaro improved her dual singles winning streak to 14 in a row as the first one to finish her match, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court three to push Tulane's advantage to 2-0.
The Blazers (2-3) responded however, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 6 spot to cut their deficit in half, while claiming the first set in three of six singles matches.
The Green Wave remained resilient however, as Christina Sisti dismantled Jana Hecking, 6-1, 6-2, on court five, before Sade Atkinson bounced back from a lost first set to take the final two frames, 6-2, 7-5, and clinch the match on court one.
Tulane will have seven days off before its next match on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. (CT), at Missouri. The Wave will remain in Columbia, Mo., for a neutral site matchup with South Dakota State the following day at 10 a.m.
