Women’s Tennis Drops Tight Contest at Mizzou, 4-1

COLUMBIA, Mo. - In a match full of momentum swings, the Tulane women's tennis team suffered a tough, 4-1 non-conference road defeat at Missouri on Saturday afternoon.
The fight for the doubles point proved contentious from the first serve of the day, as Sade Atkinson and Elena Muller cruised to a 6-1 victory at the No. 1 spot in the lineup, but the Tigers were able to win by the same count at the No. 2 position.
The first team point of the match came down to the No. 3 doubles matchup, where the score was 4-4 at the completion of the first two matches. Christina Sisti and Alex Alegre could not hold serve however, dropping the next two games, as the Green Wave fell behind, 1-0.
Tulane (3-3) and Missouri (7-1) each scored wins to start singles, as the Tigers won in straight sets on court four just before Atkinson outlasted Marta Oliveira, 6-1, 6-4, on court one to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.
Missouri pulled ahead once more on court two with a straight set victory, but the Green Wave was ahead on courts three, five and six. Ivone Alvaro won her first set, 6-3, at No. 3, while Sisti won hers by the same score and Alex Alegre led, 3-2, early on.
Alvaro and Sisti dropped their second sets, while Alegre could not hold on before going down, 6-3, 6-2, as the Tigers clinched the match before Alvaro or Sisti could put another point on the scoreboard.
Tulane will face South Dakota State at 10 a.m., on Sunday in Columbia.
