Moore Falls in Semifinals at ITA Southern Regional
Oct 22, 2018 | Men's Tennis
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Making his second appearance in as many years in the semifinals of the singles main draw at the ITA Southern Regional, Tulane junior men's tennis standout Ewan Moore had his run come to an end in a three-set defeat to Mississippi State's Niclas Braun on Monday at the University of Alabama.
Ranked 60th nationally and seeded seventh in the draw, Moore got off to a hot start by breaking Braun's serve in the first game of the opening set and holding his own to earn an early 2-0 advantage. The set would progress evenly otherwise, but the early edge gave Moore what he needed to win the first set, 6-4. Braun, the nation's 109th-ranked singles player, responded in the second frame however, earning a 6-4 decision of his own to force a third and deciding set.
It took Moore some time to stop Braun's momentum however, as he opened up an early 3-0 lead in the third. Moore was able to turn the tide and tie up the match, 5-5, but the early deficit proved to be too steep, as Braun claimed the final two games to win the set, 7-5, and advance to Tuesday's championship.
Tulane returns to action when it sends select players to the Oct. 26-28 at the USTA Futures pro circuit event in Birmingham, Ala.
