NTCAÂ Preseason Poll
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane bowling received the team's first ever preseason top-ten national ranking, earning the No. 10 spot in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Preseason Poll released Wednesday.
"The preseason poll doesn't mean a lot but it is more of a motivator for us to see how much we can improve our highest ranking from last year," head coach Hayley Veitch said. "A tenth place ranking is an accurate representation of where we finished last season, and in the coming months we will strive to work hard in order to improve our position."
The Green Wave checked in at No. 9 in the NTCA Top 25 Poll last season after successful fall performances, including a second place finish in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational. Top five finishes in the Arkansas State Mid-Winter and Kutztown Invitationals kept the team within its top ten spot in the February NTCA Top 25 Poll.
Veitch added two freshman to this year's roster, Veronica Petrinec of Titusville, Florida and Crystal Singh of Coral Springs, Florida. Petrinec led Titusville High School to the Florida State High School Athletics Association Florida High School Bowling Championships three times, earning a state title in 2014. Singh was the only junior on the Dexter/United States Bowling Congress High School Girls All-America team, while also a two-time Broward County Bowler of the Year and individual Florida High School State Champion.
Tulane is one of four teams in the Southland Bowling League that earned a spot in the top-ten rankings. Vanderbilt earned a No. 1 ranking, with 32 first-place votes, Sam Houston State checked in at fourth, Arkansas State recorded a fifth-place ranking and Stephen F. Austin followed in sixth. Louisiana Tech also earned a spot in the Top 25 Poll, checking in at No. 17 in the preseason rankings.
