A Pair of Tulane Football Players Honored by The American
Nov 12, 2018 | Football
NEW ORLEANS - Tulane football players Roberic Teamer Jr. and Darnell Mooney were recognized by the American Athletic Conference on Monday following their performances in the Green Wave's 24-18 victory over East Carolina on Saturday.
Â
Teamer earned AAC Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career after he posted a game-high 10 tackles. His 10 tackles also tied a career high. In addition, the New Orleans native tallied a pair of pass breakups and had one sack.
Â
Junior wide receiver Darnell Mooney was selected to the league's weekly honor roll after he
posted one of the best performances in school history by a wide receiver.
Â
Mooney finished the game with six catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns. His 217-yard effort is the fifth-most receiving yards for a single game in program history. In addition, his 36.1 yards per catch served as a school record and is the second highest single-game average in league history.
Â
Mooney's 217 yards were the most by a wide receiver in the American this season. He also is one of just 20 players this season that have 200 or more yards receiving in a single game. His 217-yard effort is the 12th-best performance at the FBS level this season.
Â
Tulane returns to action this week as it heads to Houston on Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (CT), and the game will be aired on ESPN.
