NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane beach volleyball team defeated UAB in the Green Wave's Fall Classic on Saturday, earning a 4-1 score against the Blazers at White Sands Volleyball Courts.
"Our team played exceptionally well and I'm very proud of our players," sixth-year head coach Wayne Holly said. "We've improved our process since competing last month in Gulf Shores and it showed today both in how we competed and in the results we achieved. We played our best volleyball of the fall today and it's a credit to the players who have worked through a challenging fall season to come together, refine their game and uphold the tradition of being consistently excellent."
Sophomore Rio Frohoff and junior Tarin Mergener served as the team's No. 1 pair, winning the first set before falling to the Blazers 1-2Â (21-17, 16-21, 12-15)Â in a three-set battle.
Sophomore Addie Hermstad and freshman Haley Gibson teamed up to compete as the No. 2 duo for the Green Wave, earning a 2-1 win against UAB (21-18, 19-21, 15-12).
Sophomores Ashley Delgado and Lauren Orlich swept the Blazers in the third flight, recording identical 21-8 scores in both sets of action on the sand.
Sophomore Gabby Becerra and freshman Ellie Leitko also tallied a 2-0 sweep as the No. 4 pair, with 21-14 and 21-10 scores in the two sets.
Sophomore Morgan Esters and freshman Kilani Daane competed in the fifth flight and earned a 2-1 win (21-15, 17-21, 15-9).
