Men's Tennis Closes Out CCB Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Tulane men's tennis team finished play at the Country Club of Birmingham Invitational on Sunday, earning a third-place finish in one doubles draw along with a pair of singles victories.
The Green Wave got the day started with a victory in the third-place doubles match in the White Draw, as Hamish Stewart and Eric Wagner took down Mississippi State's Gregor Ramskogler and Stedman Strickland, 8-5.
In singles, Tim Ruetzel faced South Alabama's Samuel Serrano in his third-place match, instead of Stewart as originally scheduled, and earned a hard-fought 7-6(2), 7-6(4) victory. Ranked No. 121 nationally, Stewart took Serrano's place in the fifth-place draw and defeated Ole Miss' Jan Soeren Hain in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(11-9)
Tulane will send Ewan Moore and Luis Erlenbusch to the ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Ariz. Competition is set to begin Nov. 7 with the first round of the singles main draw. The Green Wave will play its final team tournament of the fall campaign next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10 at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas.
