Women’s Tennis Hands South Alabama First Loss, 4-3

NEW ORLEANS - The Tulane women's tennis team won its third straight match and dealt South Alabama its first loss of the spring with a 4-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the City Park Pepsi Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (6-3) had their hands full early on, as the fight for the doubles point was a contentious one. Laura Fabrizi and Ivone Alvaro rolled to a 6-0 shutout at the No. 2 position in the lineup, but the Jaguars (5-1) won by the same count from the No. 3 spot. Fortunately, Sade Atkinson and Elena Muller built an early lead at the No. 1 position and cruised to a 6-1 victory to put the Wave in front, 1-0, heading into singles.

South Alabama tied the match with a straight set victory on court one, before Alvaro won, 6-1, 6-3, on court three to to put Tulane back in front. Alvaro has now won 16 straight dual singles decisions dating back to last season.
The Jaguars tied the match once more, 2-2, with a win on court five, but Muller earned a 6-2, 6-3, victory on court four, before Fabrizi clinched with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph on court two.
Up next, Tulane travels to Baton Rouge on Tuesday to take on LSU. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
