Feb 25, 2018 | Women's Tennis
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Tulane women's tennis team suffered its fifth defeat of the season in a 4-0 setback at Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at the Adams Tennis Complex.
Tulane (7-5) struggled to gain early momentum in doubles play, as the Blue Raiders earned early breaks on courts two and three. While Sade Atkinson and Elena Muller battled to a 3-3 tie at the No. 1 position, Middle Tennessee (9-4) pulled away in the other two matches and won both by 6-1 counts, respectively, to clinch the doubles point and earn the first team point of the contest.
The Green Wave could not turn the tide in singles, as the Blue Raiders claimed the first set on five of six courts, as Muller earned a 6-4 first-set win on court three. Middle Tennessee continued to push forward and finished wins on courts one, four and six to clinch the match.
Tulane heads to Storrs, Conn., for a pair of American Athletic Conference matches, beginning Saturday, March 3 with a 1 p.m. matchup against Temple, before a 10 a.m., bout against UConn on Sunday.
