No. 18 Beach Volleyball Opens Tiger Beach Challenge With One Dual Win

BATON ROUGE, La. - No. 18 Tulane beach volleyball clinched its 10th victory of the season with a win against Spring Hill, but lost to College of Charleston and No. 17 Stetson in Saturday's tripleheader to open the Tiger Beach Challenge. The Green Wave's record now stands at 10-5 overall, 1-1 CCSA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
College of Charleston 3, #18 Tulane 2
Tulane started the day by suffering its first conference loss of the season, falling 3-2 to College of Charleston.Â
The Green Wave's No. 1 pair of senior Madeline Mertz and sophomore Kaylie McHugh took care of business against Charleston's top duo, winning in straight sets by a score of 21-13, 21-18.
Tulane's second flight win in the dual came from senior Lan Nguyen and sophomore Tarin Mergener. Playing as the Wave's No.2, the pair went to three sets against Charleston's No. 2, ultimately winning 21-17, 19-21, 15-12.
Charleston won flights three, four and five in straight sets to earn the dual win.
#18 Tulane 4, Spring Hill College 1
The Green Wave got back on track in the second dual of the day, winning 4-1 over Spring Hill to earn their 10th win of the season.

Mertz and McHugh once again won in straight sets. The duo defeated Spring Hill's No. 1 pair by a score of 21-9, 21-9.
Mergener and Nguyen won in straight sets in flight two by a score of 21-18, 21-14 while freshmen Addison Hermstad and Ashley Delgado, playing as Tulane's No. 3, also won in straight sets (21-16, 21-12). Senior Christina McAfee -Â making her season debut - and freshman Morgan Esters - making her collegiate debut - played together in flight five and won in straight sets by a score of 21-18, 23-21.

Tulane concluded the first day of the competition with a close loss against a ranked opponent, falling to No. 17 Stetson, 3-2.Â
Nguyen and Mergener lost against Stetson's No. 2 in straight sets. Mertz and McHugh, Tulane's top duo, went to three sets before winning by a score of 21-19, 15-21, 15-11 to complete their undefeated day.
The Wave's other flight win in the dual came from Delgado and Hermstad. The freshmen pair took down Stetson's No. 4 duo in three sets (17-21, 21-11, 15-12).
UP NEXT
The action rolls on tomorrow for the Green Wave. Day two of the competition begins at 12 p.m., with Tulane playing No. 20 FAU before finishing the weekend against No. 7 LSU at 2 p.m.
