Mar 27, 2018 | Men's Tennis
DALLAS - The No. 31/24 Tulane men's tennis team earned its sixth win in its last seven matches and fifth win road victory of the season in a 4-0 shutout at American Athletic Conference foe SMU on Tuesday evening at the SMU Tennis Complex.
The Green Wave (12-6) got their evening underway with an aggressive start to doubles, earning early breaks at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, where Tyler Schick and Hamish Stewart cruised to a 6-2 win on court two to put the pressure on the Mustangs (7-14). Leading in the remaining two matches, Constantin Schmitz and Ewan Moore closed out court one, 6-4, to earn their fifth straight victory and clinch the doubles point for Tulane for the 10th time this season.
The Wave maintained control of the match at the start of singles, claiming the first set on four courts, before rapidly increasing their lead in the overall match. Playing at the No. 4 spot for the first time since Feb. 23 against Mississippi State, Luis Erlenbusch was first to close out his opponent, 6-2, 6-2, to push the advantage to 2-0 in the overall match.
Tulane wasted little time imposing its will, as Schick finished off his match from the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-1, before Tim Ruetzel clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six.
Tulane closes its stretch of three straight road matches in the Lonestar State with a trip to Austin on Thursday, March 26 to face No. 15 Texas. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
