NEW ORLEANS – Tulane Athletics held its annual banquet, the Green Globe Awards, on Sunday evening inside the Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse, where Green Wave student-athletes were honored for all of their accomplishments - on and off the field - over the past academic school year.
Tulane Athletics handed out awards for the Male and Female Athlete of the Year and also named the Wilson Award winners and Scholar-Athletes of the Year. In addition, each program presented its own team-specific awards.
Football's Robert Kennedy and women's basketball's Harlyn Wyatt emceed the event, welcoming Green Wave student-athletes, coaches, support staff and administration with opening remarks to begin the night.
"Each and every one of you here tonight should be proud of yourselves, your teammates and your fellow student-athletes," Wyatt said. "As we all know, being a student-athlete is no easy task, juggling schooling, sport and life all at once. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we do it pretty well here at Tulane."Â
Men's tennis' Constantin Schmitz was named Male Athlete of the Year while women's basketball's Kolby Morgan received the Female Athlete of the Year honor.
The Wilson Award is given to the student-athlete who demonstrates a strong overall impact on Tulane Athletics through leadership and achievements in the university's three pillars: excellence in education, competition and service. This year's Wilson awards belonged to football's Aaron Golub and swimming & diving's Kaitlin Simpson.
The recipients of the male and female Scholar-Athlete Award were Eric Wagner of men's tennis and Lauren Bartels of women's cross country/track & field, respectively.
