
Men’s Tennis Announces Addition of Transfer Dane Esses

NEW ORLEANS - Tulane director of tennis Mark Booras has announced the addition of Pepperdine University transfer Dane Esses to the men's program's 2018 signing class.
Esses joins the Green Wave following two seasons in Malibu, California with the Waves.
"We're very excited to get Dane on the team," Booras said. "He's had a lot of experience in the college realm already so he's seen what it's like at this level. He understands the investment it takes to be successful as a team and an individual."
As a sophomore at Pepperdine in 2017-18, Esses earned All-West Coast Conference (WCC) honors in singles after compiling a a team-leading 16 total wins, including a 10-8 mark in dual matches going 0-2 at No. 1, 4-2 at No. 2, 4-3 at No. 3 and 2-1 at No. 4 in the lineup. During the fall, he defeated 97th-ranked Sumeer Jumar of Stanford in three sets at Battle in the Bay in San Francisco.
In doubles, he earned All-WCC First Team honors in doubles after going 11-5 during the spring season with an 8-4 record playing No. 1 and a 3-1 ledger at No. 2.
During his freshman campaign with the Waves, Esses went 19-15 in singles, including a 12-6 record in dual matches with a 10-5 mark playing at the No. 6 spot in the lineup. In a Jan. 27 match against Tulane in Berkeley, he defeated Chi-Shan Jao in straight sets, despite the Waves falling, 4-2, in the overall match. In the classroom, he was named to the WCC Commissioner's Honor Roll and was tabbed with Pepperdine's scholar-athlete honors.
Esses joins USC Upstate graduate transfer Felix Ewers and incoming freshman Benji Jacobson as newcomers for the 2018-19 campaign.
