NEW ORLEANS - Tulane women's tennis team was chosen as a recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Team Academic Award for the 2018 season according to an announcement by the organization Tuesday. The Green Wave has now been honored four times in the last five years.
Individually, Sofia Kurtz, Daniela La Fuente and Elena Muller were chosen as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Kurtz received the honor for the third straight year and Muller for the second time in a row, while La Fuente accomplished the feat in her first collegiate season.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year and be enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters.
Tulane finished its first season under head coach Maria Brito with a 13-11 overall record in 2018 and reached the quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship.
