Green Wave Volleyball Sweeps UNO, Goes 12-0 Sets Undefeated

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane volleyball continued its winning streak, sweeping UNO in a three-set match (25-14, 25-20, 25-17) at home to mark a 12-0 set record to start the 2018 season.
Sophomore outside hitter Lexie Douglas and senior middle hitter Hannah Shaw led the Olive and Blue in kills with seven each, while freshman outside hitter Makala Heidelberg recorded a team-high 12 digs.
Tulane was off to a quick start in set one, picking up a 21-5 lead with an assist from freshman setter Taylor Henigsman and a kill from Douglas. With a following 4-0 run, UNO closed the gap to 21-9 before recording another 4-0 run to put the score at 24-14. Sophomore right side hitter Kristen Thompson finished the set with a kill to put Tulane on top 1-0.
For the majority of the second set, the two teams exchanged leads and maintained a close score. A kill from Shaw put the Green Wave ahead 21-18, followed by kills from Thompson, Heidelberg, and junior right side hitter Erika Hansel to close it out with a score of 25-20.
Tulane started the final set with a 6-0 run, led by junior libero Kaylie McHugh, who contributed three serving aces. The home team kept its lead for the entire third set, with back-to-back kills from both Douglas and freshman middle hitter Kayla Dinkins to keep the Green Wave on top to win it 25-17.
The undefeated Olive and Blue hit the road Wednesday for the first time this season, traveling to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Invitational. Tulane will face Wofford in its first away match on Thursday at 8:30 a.m., followed by a match against South Alabama at 1 p.m. On Friday, the Green Wave will face Alabama State at 8:30 a.m. and Georgia Tech at 6 p.m. to close out the weekend.
