
Tulane Student-Athletes Demonstrate Academic Success, Earn Highest GPA in Five Years

NEW ORLEANS -Â Tulane student-athletes experienced success not only athletically during the fall of 2018 but also academically, earning a 3.139 fall semester GPA, the athletic department's highest in the past five years.

Green Wave student-athletes have shown consistent growth in their combined GPA since the fall of 2016, demonstrating most recently a significant increase from their 3.083 GPA in the spring of 2018 to their 3.139 GPA this fall.

"I would like to congratulate our student-athletes on an exceptional academic semester this past fall," Associate Athletics Director for Academic Services Dr. Charvi Greer said. "Our student-athletes are truly thriving academically and I firmly believe that these results are a product of the total student-athlete experience we aim to provide at Tulane."

Eight teams - baseball, men's basketball, men's cross country, football, men's track and field, golf, volleyball and beach volleyball - increased their GPAs from the spring to fall semesters while men's basketball, football and men's track and field also earned their highest GPAs since 2014.

The men's basketball team's GPA of 3.150 is the highest recorded average.

The women's track and field team had the highest GPA among Tulane's 17 sports programs, achieving a combined 3.564. Sailing (coed) was not too far behind in the team's first season at the varsity level, recording an impressive 3.532 GPA.

Earlier this year, Tulane announced an overall graduation success rate of 93 percent , which is five percentage points above the national average and is tied for 10th overall among Football Bowl Subdivision institutions. Tulane's overall GSR is also tops among institutions in the American Athletic Conference and is the highest in the state of Louisiana.

Of the 342 total student-athletes, 65 were named to the Tulane Dean's List and 220 (64.3 percent) recorded GPAs above a 3.0. Among those 220 student-athletes, 106 had GPAs between 3.0 and 3.499, 90 fell between 3.5 and 3.999 and 24 earned perfect 4.0's.This past semester, our student-athletes got it done in the classroom.
