Men's Tennis Wraps Play at ITA Southern Regional

AUBURN, Ala. - Seniors Ewan Moore and Dane Esses reached the quarterfinals of the singles main draw, but the Tulane men's tennis team's weekend at the 2019 ITA Southern Regional came to an end Sunday evening at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

The Green Wave advanced four players into the round of 16 of the singles main draw, but senior Luis Erlenbusch and junior Hamish Stewart suffered respective three-set defeats, as their runs through the tournament came to an end.

Esses claimed a tough, comeback win over Alabama's Riccardo Roberto, 6-7 (8), 6-4, 7-5, but was outlasted, 6-3, 7-6(1), by Mississippi State's Gregor Ramskogier in the quarterfinals.

Ranked 36th nationally, Moore had to battle back from a lost first set against Troy's Pelayo Antuna, but cruised in the subsequent two frames to finish off a 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, 6-1 victory. In the quarters, he got off to a quick start with a 6-3 first set win, but Davide Tortora countered by taking the final two sets, 6-3, 7-6 (2), to eliminate Moore and advance to Monday's semifinal.

Tulane returns to the courts Nov. 1-3 for the annual CCB Invitational in Birmingham.
