Men’s Tennis Signs Fynn Kuenkler to NLI
Nov 18, 2019 | Men's Tennis
NEW ORLEANS – Tulane director of tennis and men's head coach Mark Booras announced the signing of Fynn Kuenkler to a National Letter of Intent.
Kuenkler becomes the first member of the Green Wave's 2019-20 signing class and will be eligible to compete as a freshman in the fall of 2020.
"Fynn brings a great level of experience to our program," Booras said. "He has had a lot of success nationally and internationally, and we look forward to him making an immediate impact on our team."
A Bielefeld, Germany native, Kuenkler brings a wealth of experience on the ITF junior circuit with him to New Orleans, as he was ranked the No. 1 junior player in his home country at the U14 level, No. 2 at U16 and No. 8 at U18.
Kuenkler enjoyed a strong 2018 season, winning three doubles championships, across the Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 4 levels, while reaching the finals of four other tournaments in Germany, Spain and Switzerland. In singles, he reached the finals of the NRW Junior Open in Germany in singles, while advancing as far as the semifinals in two other Grade 4 tournaments in Sweden and Malta, respectively.
In 2017, Kuenkler won three Grade 4 doubles crowns, and reached the singles final of the U16 German Junior Championships. At the U15 German Championships, he reached the doubles final just one year after winning the U14 title in 2015.
Kuenkler joins a long list of successful ITF junior players from Germany to compete at Tulane in the last five years, which includes a pair of two-time All-Americans in Dominik Koepfer (current ATP No. 85) and Constantin Schmitz.
Current Green Wave student-athletes hailing from Germany include seniors Tim Ruetzel and Luis Erlenbusch.
Tulane returns to the courts in January for the start of dual match play.
